She also forced her friend Mio Akiyama to join the club. The club needs four members so that it will be considered by the school council so the two desperately tried to find people who are interested in joining their club.
Their third member, Tsumugi Kotobuki joined their club while she was initially looking for the choir club. Like a miracle, Yui Hirasawa submitted an application form for the club. When it’s time to meet the members of the club, Yui decided to quit and tell them that she couldn’t play other than castanet. But Ritsu and the rest tried to convince join by playing a song for her. Yui then decided to join the club and this started a new friendship and the rebirth of the Light Music Club.
K-On is a 13-episode anime series that is full of fun moments, club activities and friendship. It is based on a four-panel comic strip manga from the magazine Manga Time Kirara and was writted and illustrated by Kakifly. The word K-On was derived from the Jpanese word “keiongaku” which means light music. The anime was released April 2009 and and OVA is scheduled to be released in January 2010.
THE CHARACTERS:
Yui Hirasawa – She was the 4th member of the band. She is a bit clubsy and according to Ritsu “A person without a tempo.” Yui lives with her sister Ui and spends most of the time doing nothing. When she started high school, she told herself that she wants to join a club. At first she couldn’t decide what club to join. Yui crossed paths with Ritsu and Mio in the faculty room when the two inquired about the Light Music Club of the school. Yui then decided to join the light music club thinking that she has the knowledge to play Castanet.
When she joined the club, the group decided that she will take on the lead guitar position . Yui then spent most of her time practicing the guitar and she became adept to it in a matter of months. Yui named her guitar “Gitah” which is a pun on the word “guitar".
Mio Akiyama – Mio initially wanted to join the literature club but when Mio checked out the music room and found Ritsu there. Ritsu ripped her club application and forced her to join the Light Music club. Although she seems to be confident, Mio is easily embarrassed when given the thought of doing something in front of many people which results with her playing the bass because it doesn’t put her in the spotlight. Mio is also scared of creepy things like barnacles. She trembles a lot and cries when she encouters such things much to Ritsu’s enjoyment who teases her more. Mio is the mature-minded member of the group. She often hits something like submitting the forms needed for their performance which Ritsu has a habit of forgetting.
Mio’s stage fright was worsen when she accidentally slipped on a wire and bared her “pantsu” to the whole audience. Mio is also the one responsible in writing the lyrics of their songs which sometimes leads her into singing the song.
Ritsu Tainaka – Is the self proclaimed president of the Light Music Club she has a habit of forgetting important things such as submitting the needed papers for their performance on stage which often results to her being yelled at by Nodoka. Ritsu almost always receives a knock on the the head curtesy of Mio whenever she does something that Mio dislikes and it always results witha bump on her head.
Ritsu Likes to tease Mio especially when Mio is scared of something. She aggravates Mio’s fear by showing her the things that she is afraod of like a cut finger. Ritsu is also the one who framed Sawako into becoming the Light Music Club’s adviser. Her reason for playing the drums is that it doesn’t involve intricate finger movements and she thinks playing the drums is cool.

Tsumugi Kotobuki – Also called Mugi-chan by her band mates initially wanted to join the choir but ended up joining the Light Music Club as their Keyboardist. Tsumugi is born in a wealthy family and has a reserved personality. During their first “club meeting” in a fast food chain. Tusmugi told Mio and Ritsu that it was her first time to eat in a fast food restaurant. She has a calm demeanor and is often seen oblivious in her sorroundings. Muri is also the one responsible for the after-class tea breaks of the club which was obviously enjoyed by Sawako(their club adviser). During summer days Tsumugi takes the band for “special training workshops” in one of her family’s seaside mansions.
Despite her gentle personality, Tsumugi has a thing for girls who are close together. This was first observed by Ritsu and Mio when Sawako-sensei took responsibility in training Yui with her guitar skills. She admires Sawako because of her beauty and charm.
I finished watching it and I’d say that it is fun just like Lucky Star. Very much similar to Lucky Star. The whole series was fun but I thought I’d find something interesting in the end. But nothing special. Just like Lucky Star. The series ended with them doing the things they usually do everyday.
